Carolyn Wei is a Principal UX Researcher at Instagram, where she studies how teens and young adults use social media to manage their identities, relationships, and time across an expanding portfolio of platforms. Her work sits at the intersection of strategic research and cultural foresight, helping product teams understand not just what users need today, but where behavior is heading next. Over a 20-year career spanning Meta, Microsoft, and Google, Carolyn has developed a practice around researching audiences who are culturally different from the researcher, and building lightweight systems that help teams stay ahead of emerging trends. More recently, she has been exploring how AI tools can extend the reach of UX research, from signal-scanning and synthesis to accelerating insight delivery. Carolyn holds a PhD in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington, where she studied technology use in digitally emergent settings.
