Media relations professionals have the unique ability to transform tragedy into action by influencing public perception. It's particularly powerful in the legal profession where the court of public opinion can lead to policy change, new laws and so much more. As the media relations leader for Cooper Elliott, one of the leading law firms in Ohio, I've helped their clients navigate earned media to impact social change regarding sexual harassment, gun legislation, police reform and hazing reform. During this session, we'll discuss a recent case making national headlines about fraternity hazing, and how earned media influenced Ohio lawmakers to sign one of the toughest hazing laws in the country, university presidents to update their hazing policies, and one university to pay the largest hazing settlement in the history of Ohio.

Takeaway

  • How to build a content strategy through earned media coverage
  • How to prepare subjects for interviews, especially when they have no media experience
  • How to land transformative media coverage
